Flor de Piña the dance that captivated the world.

Nuria Pérez, the narrator of the magnificent podcast Gabinete de Curiosidades (gabinetepodcast.com), once said "There is an object capable of collecting many dreams and -sorry Guerlain-, many more hopes than the best of perfumes,... the notebooks". There is also a place where dreams are born, and where hopes are reached as if we were daydreaming. Yes, I mean Oaxaca.

Tuxtepec Tōchtepēc "On Rabbit Hill" We travel to the year 1958

It is a warm afternoon of those of Tuxtepec, we are in the year of 1958, there in the City "In the hill of the rabbit" for its meaning in Nahuatl language: "toch tépetl" located by road 218 km from the "Green Antequera ", as the City of Oaxaca de Juárez is known, also the Capital of the State of southern Mexico, OAXACA.

Who is Paulina? How was the idea of performing the Flor de Piña dance born?

Paulina Solís Ocampo _An enthusiastic and respected Tuxtepecan, recognized for her mission and educational work, since, since her training as an Educator, she has been during her career: primary teacher, pianist, promoter of the education of the elderly, founder of the school Apostle of Democracy primary school, among many innumerable contributions_  one day receives a call from the Municipal President to inform them that the State Governor has invited them to design the dance for Tuxtepec so that they can participate in the Guelaguetza festival, an annual celebration where they meet the delegations of the 8 Regions, which has a special meaning, the attitude or human gift of cooperating, of showing solidarity with others.

Love for Music and Dance

Paulina's taste and sensitivity for music prompt her to take the challenge as an opportunity and she decides to reassess the traditional clothing of the Chinanteca and Mazateca ethnic groups, inhabitants of the region of the Sierras (mountainous areas) of Papaloapan, for which she feel appreciation and admiration, those who preserve the tradition of spinning their huipiles on backstrap looms, or embroidering them with their hands, all full of colors, meanings and elements of their environments such as animals, flowers.

Without noticing the scope of her imagination,  Teacher Paulina creates a choreography with women from Tuxtepec, bringing together regional costumes, pineapples, ribbons and beaded necklaces that achieve something beyond the expected representativeness of the Tuxtepec Delegation, becoming inspiration for painters. , Musicians and Poets when creating their works.

This is how Teacher Paulina Solís, captures on a living canvas, the cultural values that for decades have aroused emotions and applause in the Guelaguetza to this day, there was no doubt, the cultural phenomenon "Flor de Piña" was born.

Si, me refiero a Oaxaca.
